But with her boyfriend “entertaining” in their cabin, she has nowhere to sleep. Logan, the lodge owner, finds her freezing on the porch. After hauling her inside, he warms her in his own bed, and there the experienced Dominant discovers that Rebecca might not be a swinger…but she is definitely a submissive. Rebecca knows that no one can love her plump, scarred body. But, to her surprise, Logan disagrees and is quite happy to show her just how much he enjoys her curves. Under his skilled hands, Rebecca loses not only her inhibitions, but also her heart. Damaged from the war, Logan considers himself too dangerous to be around the enticing little sub. He sends her away for her own safety, not realizing she thinks she’s been rejected because of her size. When Logan’s mountains echo with her voice long after she’s gone, he knows she’s left behind part of herself—and taken his heart. But when he arrives in the city to reclaim her, Rebecca’s phone has been disconnected and her apartment is empty…

You know, Cherise Sinclair does such an amazing job of giving us characters who we care about and believable storylines despite the shorter page count. I’ve found this to be true in every one of her books that I’ve read, and Master of the Mountain is no different. I’ve found this to be true in every one of her books that I’ve read, and Master of the Mountain is no different. Rebecca is such a sweet young woman and I just ache for her and her poor self image because she’s on the plumper side, and has scars on her legs. She’s embarrassed by her body to point of wanting the lights dimmed when having sex, even though it’s with her live-in boyfriend, Matt. And while she’s uncomfortable by her physical appearance, she’s not crippled by it. Matt is a typical male, I guess. He’s not a bad guy, really, but it annoyed me that he waited until he and Rebecca had been living together for two weeks before telling her that he belongs to a swingers club, has for some time now, and they have a retreat coming up that he wants her to attend with him. Well, Rebecca hasn’t been too terribly impressed with their sex life, so she thinks that this might be something to spice things up a bit, and agrees to give it a shot. Logan and Jake are brothers who own the mountain lodge where Matt’s group of “friends” will be spending their long weekend. They keep a close on eye on their lodgers and make sure there are plenty of hiking, fishing and sightseeing activities to keep everyone busy. Even in the lodge during meals and other indoor “activities,” Logan and Jake keep an eye on things, as much for entertainment value as safety, and it doesn’t take long for Logan to see how out of place the cute little Rebecca seems to be. But hey, not his problem, right? Well, that is until he finds her asleep on the lodge’s porch, near freezing, where she’d curled up after discovering for herself that swinging just wasn’t her thing. So Logan carries her inside and up to his room where he warms her up and shows her that while she may not be a swinger she is most definitely a submissive. So that’s the base plot of the story, and where everything begins. One of the things I most enjoyed and appreciated about it this book is that Rebecca’s self image issues were her own. Matt, this really good looking, buff guy, never tried to make her feel bad, didn’t toss out disparaging remarks about her body, and I got the impression that he really did care about her, and that her few extra pounds didn’t bother him. I believe that his “swinger” lifestyle would have existed regardless of her clothing size. However, not everyone in Rebecca’s life was so kind. Logan, a war veteran, has enough scars on his own body that nothing shocks him. As far as he’s concerned, Rebecca, who he calls “little rebel,” has nothing to be ashamed of, and is determined to prove it to her, in the way only a strong, experienced Dom can. I really can’t say enough good things about Cherise Sinclair’s stories. I’ve read some BDSM scenes in mainstream romance novels, but they don’t compare to what Ms. Sinclair gives us in her stories. I feel like I’ve finally been given a more accurate look at what the lifestyle entails without making me feel uncomfortable. I don’t think I’d call these books hardcore, but I would definitely not call them tame, either. Sexuality content: Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Anal play/intercourse, BDSM theme and content, exhibitionism.

Cute, fast, forgettable. It's exactly what you expect it to be. Bad bf, hot new guy, even hotter sex and love. Not awful, if this is what you're looking for. Cute, fast, forgettable. I'll just say that the premise was interesting, but I didn't like the way the story unfolded. Rebecca was too hesitant and insecure - so much that I didn't know if she still considered Matt her boyfriend or not when she had sex with Logan. Before anyone shouts "Cheater!" at her, let me explain that Matt and Rebecca had an open relationship - even though she only became aware of that when the douchebag told her he was a swinger and asked her to join his swing club on a long weekend retreat - so she wasn't cheating on him when she decided to explore her sexuality with Logan. Even so, I still felt uncomfortable with her decision, mostly because she was uncomfortable with it too. She was clearly not a swinger and not into any kind of sexual sharing, so why didn't she break things up with Matt when she realized that? Considering he was "busy" with another woman (and therefore, didn't have time to speak with his own girlfriend) and how he was okay with her having sex with other guys, I'd have been fine with Rebecca breaking up with Matt "telepathically" until she could do it face to face. She did that (the "telepathic" breakup) later, but the damage - the way I saw it - had been done. Logan was sexy as sin - and a bit scary for my sensitive taste. He was definitely a Dom with a capital D and wasn't afraid to push Rebecca out of her comfort zone. He never went over what he knew she could take, which was a relief - to her, not to me. And that's where I had some issues with this book. Logan and Rebecca were more than happy with their BDSM plays - well, she wasn't exactly laughing with joy when he punished her, but you know what I mean - and they really knew how to set the sheets on fire, but some of their sex scenes were out of my comfort zone. I shouldn't care - I mean, as long as everyting is sane, safe and consensual, everything goes - but I couldn't help being put off by some of their sexcapades. Since I read for fun and that affected my enjoyment while I was reading this book, I had to take that in consideration when I decided on my rating. This was my 3rd read by this author and I don't know where I stand when it comes to her books. I like her writing, but I'm wary of her stories. I loved The Dom's Dungeon, I didn't like Club Shadowlands and even though I thought that this book was better than okay, it wasn't a winner. What to do, what to do? I guess I'll have to keep reading. ;)

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. From the first page to the last, Master of the Mountain  captured my attention, my imagination, and my heart. I feel Cherise Sinclair did a wonderful job portraying the basic and complex components in the relationship between the Dominate and the Submissive. That she incorporated romance into this light BDSM story made it that much better.  For me, Logan's character is a great example of a responsible and good Dom. That she incorporated romance into this light BDSM story made it that much better.  For me, Logan's character is a great example of a responsible and good Dom. He recognized Rebecca's (Becca) submissive nature, helped to coax out her submissive side, was always aware of her state of mind and body's responses, and pushed her limits but never went beyond them. And when Logan helped Becca overcome her debilitating fear of his dog Thor, I fell head-over-heels in love with him.  I really like Rebecca's character. I admired her courage in facing her fears, doubts, and insecurities. Her internal struggle between accepting her submissive side and being disturbed by it felt realistic and add credibility to the story.       One of my favorite parts of the book was the relationship that developed between Logan's dog, Thor and Becca. There was an ambiance about their relationship that was fun, tender, and endearing.      The swingers subplot felt gratuitous. It served little to no purpose in the overall plot (the protagonists weren't in to swinging) and I didn't care for that portion of the book. I also would have loved a little more from the ending. Maybe Thor welcoming Becca home? He was waiting for her return, after all. I was still satisfied with the ending, though. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

Hot, sexy and kinky. Mild BDSM, nothing too crazy beyond some tying up, a bit of spanking and some hijinks in the woods while tied to a tree (sign me up for a screaming orgasm too please). Oh yeah, there was a public nookie scene at a "club". I enjoyed the author's writing style and plan on checking out her other work. No ménage was included for those who are not a fan of the heroine sandwich.

The presentation of the swingers weekend idea felt too matter of fact. Almost like you picked up a conversation half way thru. 2. Rebecca's big misunderstanding and her departure from the mountain frustrated me. Never once did Logan show ANY indication that he saw her as anything but beautiful, and repeatedly both showed and told her that so her quick jump to conclusions got a big eye roll from me.

While the Masters of the Shadowlands may be my favourite series by her, this series Mountain Masters is another great BDSM escape for readers. Rebecca lets her boyfriend, Matt talk her into taking part in a swingers getaway at a mountain lodge. Feeling unfulfilled in her relationship with Matt, she thinks that this may liven up their relationship and sex life. However, once Becca gets there, she soon realizes that this may not be her scene. She doesn’t like strangers touching her, doesn’t like exchanging partners and doesn’t like the way the lodge owner, Logan keeps looking at her like she’s a feast to be consumed. Becca was a smart girl whom I really enjoyed reading about. I loved that Cherise kept reminding readers that she was a voluptuous woman with curves and valleys. Though Becca may not see the beauty in herself as she is covered in scars, she doesn’t feel too sorry for herself. She still has that confidence that I liked all my heroines to have. She was smart, sensible and an overall well-written character. Logan, on the other hand, made my heart trip. I love the Shadowland Doms, but damn, these Mountain Doms know what to do as well! Logan shows the wide-eyed and curious Becca various BDSM techniques, testing her out. What he finds is that Becca isn’t a swinger, but a submissive. He is damaged by war, experiencing extreme nightmares where he has awakened and injured people, namely his brother, Jake. In an attempt to keep Becca safe and unharmed by him, he pushes Becca away. However, Becca soon realizes that this inexplicable pull between her and her Dom is more than her interest in BDSM. It’s love. Becca and Logan are great together, explosive even, because the sex scenes between these two are delicious. Cherise Sincalir delivers. Each and every time. I’m looking forward to Jake’s story, a Dom who is a little more loose compared to his brother. But I won’t expect a less strict Dom because of that. Jake seems like he will be a lot of fun. Master Simon from Dark Haven seems like another great guy. I cannot wait to read his story as well. He was perfect in this book so reading about him will surely have me begging for more.

4 stars I wasn't planning on writing a review for this book but I find myself needing to say a few things.. First a very big thank you to Cherise Sinclair for her authors note. It starts like this : "To my readers, This book is fiction, not reality and, as in most romantic fiction, the romance is compressed into a very, very short time period. You, my darlings, live in the real world and I want you to take a little more time than the heroines you read about." You, my darlings, live in the real world and I want you to take a little more time than the heroines you read about." There's more after this which was also very considerate and made me like her as person not just an author. What I loved about this book is that Logan, our Dom when he first starts experimenting with Rebecca he actually acknowledges that she only just met him and cannot be expected to fully trust him from the get go. I LOVED that! I cannot shout it enough. Of course things escalate between them quickly after that which kinda belated his point but at least he made it and didn't push too much on their first sexual encounter. Warning mini rant ahead: See I've read a fair few novels containing BDSM and/or aspects of it. Though I comprehend they are fiction, the plot must progress and so on, sometimes it really annoys me when said Dom complains/punishes when his sub(usually a first time sub as well) doesn't fully trust him from the second he touches her. You just met like a day ago! If a guy I met a day ago wanted me to trust him to tie me up I'd probably run away no matter how horny I am. Just because the're Doms doesn't mean they are not psychopaths. I know it's a plot device to emphasize how much they are attracted to each other and throw caution to the wind but it still annoys me at times. So I really, really liked Cherise Sinclair for cautioning her readers and making a point in the book. Rant over. I loved the book, the plot, the setting, and man the sexy times were epic! All in all a great read that made me really like the author and will be definitely trying more of her books.

This was so good! Better than My Liege of Dark Haven. I'm kinda reading out of order but that's okay. I loved Rebecca, she was such a kind and sweet woman. Made to feel self conscious about her figure, she endures being in the wrong relationship with douchebag Matt. Then to meet and submit to Logan...who's pure MALE. I'm glad she was made to feel worthy of who she was and be cherished for everything she is. Logan was incredible! Such a patient and tender Dom that suffers from PTSD all alone. The This was so good! This one started out really good and then it took a turn that did not appeal to me. I liked Logan initially, and the relationship that developed between him and Rebecca. Then he got pushy and kept telling her that this is what she wanted, and maybe she did, but that's not the way the author portrayed it. Rebecca was clearly disturbed by what he was doing to her, and that didn't stop Logan. Very confusing and a bit harsh. I also didn't care for the swingers portion of the book. I'm not usually one for bdsm books, but this one was pretty good and well written. I enjoyed both the strong heroine (who finds out that she's a sexual submissive) and the studly Dom hero who owns the mountain retreat where they meet and awakens her sexually. This was a quick read, it was hot, but the heroine's low self esteem regarding her plumpish body was starting to get on my nerves. This is my first read by this author and I'll definitely look for more. 4 solid stars

What an adorable story! Actually it started off as a-okay. The Heroine happens to fall for a guy who is a gentleman (in her eyes, not mine) who can give her a life of happiness, except Matt is a terrible bed lover. Matt makes a suggestion to explore their sexual side in their relationship, and asks if she'd join him on a Swinger's retreat. In my opinion, I would've slapped the guy upside his head for suggesting it, no man is worth scooping down to his perverted level. But she agrees, and the better for her... * smirks* When Rebecca puts her two senses together, she realizes it was a huge mistake, and watching Matt screw around in front her eyes is just not her style. Rebecca meets the hot stud Logan, who owns the cabins up in the mountains where all the Swinger's meet up for their retreat. He's obviously not part of the Swinger's group, but knows all about these horny people who get a kick outta screwing with everyone. But don't let Logan fool you, he has a bad boy fetish kink, in which he has the googly eyes for Rebecca and her famous round ass. He teaches her everything about herself sexually, that she had no idea existed. "BDSM" ooooooh Logan! Spank Me Baby! Hehe!!!! Watching Logan taking it nice and slow with Rebecca then giving it to her full force, showed his soft lovable side and his tough and rough exterior of a Dom. Omg!! His stare, is a melt in your panties kinda swooning. Loved it! The story was adorable yet hot and sweaty. My palms are still sweaty. Hehe!! This is the first time I've read a Cherise Sinclair novel, I'm now considering picking up a few of her other books and see if I get the same results..... BTW! A friend had mentioned in her review about this book, a scene with Logan and Rebecca up in the mountains doing the dirty and how hot it was, I gotta say, she wasn't lying,it was one of the hottest scenes in the book. The screams from up in top of the mountains were heard by many people. Kinky little things!

Oh, the things I will do for a reading challenge. BDSM romance is a category for the 2017 Unapologetic Romance Readers challenge, and when I first came across this book it was free on kindle, so I decided to grab it, even though I will be the first to admit that BDSM is not one of my faves. To start with the positive, the book was fairly well written and I enjoyed the mountain setting. Some of the sex scenes were interesting, and the author did a good job of explaining the lifestyle. However, I Oh, the things I will do for a reading challenge. However, I just had too many little quibbles with the story to rate it higher than two stars. I'm not going to hide any spoilers since the book summary pretty much gives away the entire plot anyway, but if anyone is worried about it, please be aware--potential unmarked spoilers below. The plot, such as it is, has our heroine Becca attending a swingers weekend at a mountain lodge in order to placate her live-in boyfriend, Matt. While there, she realizes she is completely turned off by group sex and swapping, and ends up in the bed of one of the proprietors, Logan, a war vet who is also a Dom. He immediately recognizes Becca as a submissive and initiates her into the lifestyle over the course of many sex scenes. While I have no problem with the Dom/sub thing, I felt that the initial sex scene was problematic, as Becca does not yet know about Logan's intentions and keeps telling him that she is not comfortable fooling around with him. Because he somehow knows that she actually wants it (since he's not psychic, this felt too rapey for me), he keeps going, even though she keeps telling him No and Stop. Later he thinks of their encounter as a "rape fantasy" but don't both participants have to agree on this in order for it to be a "fantasy" as opposed to just rape? Later in the story, once she agrees to their relationship and understands the rules and that she can use her safe word, I didn't have an issue with the sex, even when it seemed to be humiliating for her, except that he told her he was only dominant in the bedroom but then kept "punishing" her for non-sexual things, like when she went out alone on the trail to rescue his dog. If anyone rescued MY dog, I would bake them cookies and thank them profusely, not spank them! Finally, the reason for the penultimate drama is that Logan sends Becca away for her own good because he has PTSD and nightmares and is afraid he will accidentally kill her in his sleep. What?? Seems a bit OTT to me. A few other things that stuck out as weird or annoying to me: 1. Matt and Becca have zero chemistry together, and clearly no communication skills. She doesn't even know he's a swinger until he invites her to this weekend getaway, and yet they just signed a lease on an apartment together. When they get to the lodge, she realizes how uncomfortable she is with non-monogamous relationships, but still doesn't talk to Matt about it, even while she's jumping into bed with Logan. Communication, people. It's a thing. 2. The group goes for a hike into the mountains and they start skinny dipping in a lake. Becca doesn't want to participate, but Logan makes her strip down to her underwear because he thinks she has impending heat exhaustion. Later that evening, Becca decides to sleep on the porch to avoid the swinging going on in her cabin, and gets so cold Logan rescues her from impending hypothermia by whisking her to his bed. Seriously, who suffers from both heatstroke and hypothermia on the same day??? 3. Becca is super-insecure because she is curvy, which got tiresome after a while, especially since I didn't get the impression she was morbidly obese, just plus sized. Anyway, when Logan asks her about it, she states that her dad left her mom for being overweight; he didn't like curvy women. In a later scene, Logan thinks of how his mom was really lush and curvy, just like Becca. Please, authors--do NOT make your characters think of their parents while having sex! It just squicks me out to no end. There were other issues along the way, but I don't want to be too picky, to I'll leave it here. This book has a lot of rave reviews, so don't take my criticisms to heart. If you like BDSM erotica, you might enjoy this a lot more than I did. Read for URR 2017 reading challenge: BDSM category

This was one of my first "BDSM" books several years ago and I still love it. My tastes have changed and I don't seek out this type of content but I am happy to re read this one occasionally. Not sure why my current triggers are not tripped by this book. But they are not. Even though the triggers are there. My safety gang friends should probably stay away but can ask me if they have specific questions.

My first exposure to Cherise Sinclair and MY OH MY!! What a wonderful surprise!! I loved her author's note: "Good Doms don't grow on trees" She had me right there and I simply could not go to sleep without finishing Logan ( LOVE the name by the way) and Rebecca's story. I want a Logan! With scars and that killer look! AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON SIMON!!! Does he have a book??? I pray baby Jesus he does!! But let's get it on with Jake!!

The first book in the Mountain Masters series by Cherise Sinclair. Erotica with bdsm elements. I usually prefer more plot but for what this is, I liked it. I'm not a big fan of this genre but I do like to venture into it occasionally and see what's up. Hmmm, not sure if that's the right phrase to use. LOL.

Cherise Sinclair is my new craaaaack. ETA - So I liked this one, but I didn't get the HOLY CRAPS EATING MY BRAIN vibe that I did from the others? I think maybe I failed to connect to the heroine. I'm still up for reading the next one in the series, though! Can't wait!

I read all of Cherise Sinclair's books back-to-back while I was sick with a cold. It's clear that they are imminently readable and have a definite spark, since I read them back to back, so I thought it was only fair that I explain on at least one of the books why I rated them all as a 3. I don't consider a 3 a bad grade at all, but if I'd read these books separately, with months in between, I think I may have rated some of them more highly, as a 4. I don't consider a 3 a bad grade at all, but if I'd read these books separately, with months in between, I think I may have rated some of them more highly, as a 4. As it is, I think Ms. Sinclair has a talent for writing and writes quite cleanly, with enjoyable stories and hot sex. However, having read them all at the same time, I also came to realize that the books were all quite similar, following a similar formula and this became somewhat disappointing for me. To expand, Ms. Sinclair follows a pattern somewhat like this: Heroine who is a submissive, may not realize she's a submissive and needs to learn to be a better submissive. In 50% of the books, she's had a damaging experience in her history, something that has left her somewhat broken and in need of healing. The heroes are all experienced Doms, all determined not to get into a relationship for various reasons, all become snared by the heroine who is, of course, their perfect submissive. All of the books have the couples/clubs using the same safe word (red) which I think may be Ms. Sinclair's "thing" but unfortunately lends to the sameness of the books. All of the heroines make a "whine" during sexual experiences. All of the heros have friends or family they're close with who live similar sexual lifestyles, making it seem quite mainstream. The stories interpersonal conflict resolves with the heroine moving past her damaged past and the heros realizing they don't want anyone else to have these submissives. Don't get me wrong, these are not bad books at all, but I didn't see any growth in them in terms of the author's writing. I think any book that she does that breaks this formula she's found herself writing has the potential to be utterly fantastic, and I'd be right there to buy it. In the meantime, I suspect these books make Ms. Sinclair boatloads of money from fans who love the formula, and I certainly don't fault her for writing them. I'll keep buying future books and look forward to the day when she really breaks the mold!

While there, she just isn’t into it and does not join in. When she goes to her cabin to sleep, she finds Matt and another woman having sex. So Rebecca leaves them and tries to sleep outside on the porch. Logan is one of the resort owners. He sees Rebecca outside nearly freezing and takes her to his room. She responds in ways that tell him she could be a submissive. They have crazy kinky sex for the next few days. REVIEWER’S OPINION: This is my fourth Cherise Sinclair book. I find the sex scenes very similar - lots of tying up, embarrassing, and pleasuring the woman. If you like the others, this is more of the same. But for hotness I think I prefer other authors. I’m not sure why. This is submission and discipline by a strong dominant. There are spanking, sex toys, and rear door activity. At times the sex scenes seemed a bit lengthy. I would have liked a little more story or character development. The story was pretty good. Rebecca is large boned, with big hips and a pudgy stomach. She feels undesirable. Logan disagrees. Some scenes are unsettling due to embarrassment for Rebecca, for example when Logan has her nude in front of others. But that’s part of the submission scene – I guess. I really liked the two main characters. I enjoyed the story about Rebecca’s fear of dogs and what happened with that. I also enjoyed the sweet ending. OTHER BOOKS: I’ve reviewed the following Cherise Sinclair books. Masters of the Shadowlands series: 3 stars. Club Shadowlands, Bk 1 3 ½ stars. Breaking Free, Bk 3 Novels: 3 ½ stars. The Dom’s Dungeon 3 stars. Master of the Mountain DATA: Story length: 247 pages. Swearing language: strong, including religious swear words. Sexual language: strong/erotic. Number of sex scenes: 11. Approximate number of sex scene pages: 66. Setting: current day California. Date published: eBook 2009, paperback 2010. Genre: erotic contemporary romance.

Hot & Kinky! I've often heard that Cherise Sinclair is a Master at writing BDSM stories, so when Master of the Mountain came up as a book club selection, I jumped at the chance to read something from this new-to-me author. He asks Rebecca to join him in the next get-together. Rebecca reluctantly agrees to go, but quickly finds out that swinging is not her cup of tea. The first night there, she is kicked out of her cabin and ends up sleeping on the porch of the mountain lodge. Logan, who owns the lodge with his brother Jake, finds her freezing and takes her to his bedroom to warm her up. First, I should mention that Matt is a huge jerk! Rebecca is smart and seems put-together on the outside. Even though the other members of the swinging group show interest and want her to join them in their activities, Rebecca is so insecure of her full-figured, scarred body. She immediately compares herself to the other skinny women in the group. Why would anyone want to be with her? Well, Logan certainly loves his women soft and curvy! It's a huge plus that he sees submissive qualities in Rebecca, and begins to train her right away. Logan...WOW! As a Dom, he certainly knows what he wants and how to give...and give, and give, and give! There is one outdoor scene that had Rebecca tied up and screaming at the top of the otherwise quiet mountain! Boy, did his training leave her very satisfied and overwhelmed at the same time. Logan has issues as well. As a war veteran, he is plagued with nightmares. He wants more than a long weekend with Rebecca, but he doesn't trust himself to not hurt her. I really enjoyed Rebecca and Logan's story. They were characters with realistic issues. I also liked how the author gave Rebecca her moment to think things through. I mean, here's a woman who goes to a swinging party only to be thrust into the BDSM lifestyle. I lovehow Rebecca handles everything at the end. Will I read the next book? Heck, yeah! There was just enough of Jake's back story to entice me to read on! Highly enjoyable and highly erotic with intense emotion, I recommend Master of the Mountain to any BDSM fan.

Hmm... Could it be that I don't like erotica as well as I thought? I'm not a prude. I've read stuff like this and even more smutty for most of my life but I think I've decided that all that sexing just gets in the way of a good love story. I did like the characters. I appreciated that the whole BDSM thing was mostly just in the bedroom. I think the way the story was set up as an exploration was really well done. The sex was hot. I guess I have a privacy, non exhibitionist hot button. The romance was very well done. I would have enjoyed reading even more about this couple. More getting to know each other and dealing with his PTSD and her looking for a perfect man and finding love with someone who totally doesn't fit her previous ideal of perfection. So bottom line. It was pretty well done. I guess I just need to read either a story with lots of sexing and no real romance or a more fully developed romance if that makes sense, and keep the two separate. Thanks to MelissaB for loaning it to me

I just read this book again. It's one of my favorite Cherise Sinclair books (I love all of them). But I think I've realized that this author doesn't make her men absolute assholes with a heart of gold, that the heroine can save. She does write her men flawed, but they like women, respect women and are protective of them. I also think that Cherise has no problem switching up plot. You don't feel like your reading the same plot over and over. She's the best when it comes to BDSM, in my book.. She I just read this book again. Truth be told, this book started off a little too rape-y for my liking. And, because that made me a little rage-y, you guys get a snarky play-by-play of my reactions: About a day into her vacation, Rebecca wakes up in Logan's bed - a bed she did not go to sleep in the night before - with his hand on her breast. "Logan," she whispered, "no." She pushed against a chest as solid as a boulder, and as unmovable. "Becca, yes." "Logan," she whispered, "no." She pushed against a chest as solid as a boulder, and as unmovable. "Becca, yes." (Because "no" doesn't mean "no" - it's just a coy game us girls like to play sometimes.) "You owe me a good-morning kiss, at least. [...] I saved your life, you know. You could well have died out there." Wow. Chivalry ain't dead, folks! Ladies, the next time someone holds a door for you or buys you a drink at a bar remember that saying "thank you" with words is just not enough; you are totally obligated to provide sexual favours to near strangers in return for these good deeds. "A kiss? No more." "It's a start." Don't like a woman's first response, boys? Completely ignore it and do whatever you want. Logan did! He continued to grope her and strip her and pin her to the bed even when she struggled. And when she told him clearly to let her go, he ignored that too. It was soooooooo romantic! And if the lady appears at all conflicted, press your advantage! Be persistent! "I'm going to finger fuck you until you come." "No," she whispered. This was so wrong. "Yes," he whispered back. When she yanked again, he pushed a finger into her vagina, hard and fast. [...] He didn't stop. He added another finger." And when all is said and done and he's given you that forced orgasm, don't forget that sex is about the quid pro quo; if he made you orgasm, you need to get him off too. Guilt sliced through her. He'd given her an orgasm like she'd dreamed about, and she'd given him nothing. [...] But fair was fair. She'd gotten off, and he hadn't. "What about you?" But Logan is such a good guy, readers! He realizes that he's pushed Rebecca far past her usual limits, so he magnanimously declines... for now. Instead, he just adds a blow job to the mental tally sheet he's keeping and leaves the bedroom with a big ole smile on his face and visions of rape fantasies dancing in his head. Except... I'm fairly certain that rape fantasies are the sorts of things that sexual partners should probably discuss before they're carried out. You know... To make sure that they're in line with both people's fantasies and that it isn't actually rape. Thankfully, gentlemen, if you forget that insignificant little step, you needn't worry. Women have internalized so much guilt and shame about our sexuality over the last few centuries that we'll probably find a way to blame ourselves and let you off the hook for your actions. Case in point: If she'd been adamant about her refusal, he wouldn't have pushed. See?! Nothing to worry about! Our heroine said "no" at least three times, she struggled, and physically struck Logan in the chest, but that wasn't nearly adamant enough to make him stop. She should have tried harder. And because Rebecca did end up deriving pleasure from their sexual encounter, she now gets to feel "sleazy" and "embarrassed." He's smiling. She feels sleazy and embarrassed. Yeah... That seems about right. AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH! Sorry. End of rant. Honestly, I think if you can get past the dubious consent issues and overlook the subtext about women and sex and BDSM expressed by the author in the first 25% of the book - if you can read those scenes purely as fantasy and not as a realistic representation of the BDSM community or their practices - then you'll probably enjoy this book. In fact, once I was able to put aside Rebecca and Logan's first few encounters, I liked how their relationship developed. Unfortunately, it was just too little too late for me. I'm still a massive fan of Sinclair's Masters of the Shadowlands series, though, and would highly recommend M/F fans looking for some strong female characters and sexy times to check it out.
